Well, just last week, Nielsen published an infographic on Americans’ consumption habits and compared consumers’ usage of TVs versus mobile phones.
Here’s a quick snapshot of the data:
- There are 115.9 million homes with at least one TV. 31% of Americans own four or more television sets.
- The average American watches almost 36 hours of TV each week.
- There are 228 million mobile phone users over the age of 13, and 83.2 million people access the Internet from their mobile devices.
- Unsurprisingly, the iPhone and YouTube dominate the respective lists of “Top 10 Mobile Phones” and “Top 10 Mobile Video Channels”.
- Finally, two-thirds of American mobile phone owners send SMS/text messages. And like many have been reporting, the 13-17 age group leads in terms of usage (sending more 3,700 SMS/text messages each month).
I would have thought that the definitely / probably will buy stats for e-book readers, netbooks and tablets would have been higher. What do you think of the stats? How do you see the state of the media changing in 2011?
